orthocaps® GmbH was founded in 2006 by orthodontist Dr. Wajeeh Khan, who has successfully led the company in Hamm/Westphalia ever since. With passion and inventive spirit, Dr. Khan has always strived to perfect aligner therapy, aiming to increase patient comfort and achieve more precise treatment results. This vision continues to spark new impulses for ongoing improvements at orthocaps®. Our History
In 2002, Dr. Khan began using an aligner system that had recently been launched in Germany. His previous experience with overlay devices for orthodontic tooth movement had convinced him that such appliances are only effective if the materials used are sufficiently elastic and can exert constant, low force over an extended period. The system he had been using did not meet this goal, which led him to develop a new aligner system incorporating softer, more elastic materials to create forces better suited for orthodontic purposes.
This approach quickly gained recognition in the orthodontic community. At the same time, the company grew so fast that it soon relocated to a new facility in the Hamm-Rhynern industrial area—where it is still based today.
In December 2011, orthocaps® faced legal disputes when the U.S. company Align Technology filed multiple lawsuits, accusing orthocaps® of patent infringement. After a lengthy legal battle, a settlement was reached in March 2017. For more details about this case, please see the following link:
Even today, orthocaps® is considered a genuine pioneer in the field of orthodontics. The company consistently strives to develop new concepts and treatment methods that offer dentists even better therapy options, particularly for complex cases. orthocaps® cleverly combines modern aligners with proven orthodontic appliances, a treatment approach known as orthocaps®-Hybrid Aligner Treatment (HAT). Special emphasis is placed on selecting high-quality thermoplastic materials. Additionally, two different aligners are used one for daytime and one especially for nighttime. Comprehensive progress reports ensure that treating dentists always have a clear view of the therapy progress and treatment success.

Dr. Wajeeh Khan
Meet Our Founder and CEO
Dr. Wajeeh Khan is a specialist orthodontist and the founder of the orthocaps® system. In 2002, Dr. Khan began working with a well-known commercial aligner system. Based on this experience and his work with positioners where he created setups in his practice he recognized that aligner systems must have four essential features to achieve consistently good clinical results in orthodontics:

- Use of elastic (thermoplastic) materials to enable controlled tooth movements.
- Aligners must have sufficient structural strength which is achieved through increased material thickness to provide the transverse forces needed to correct the shape of the dental arches.
- Use of two separate aligners for day and night, with the night aligner being thicker to achieve the necessary force systems. Thinner aligners, regardless of the material, cannot produce these force systems.
- Consistent treatment monitoring throughout the entire treatment period by dividing the treatment into phases and evaluating each phase in detail to detect any issues early on.

What is Lorem Ipsum?
Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.

Dr. Achile Farina
Dr. Achille Farina was a lecturer at the Study and Research Center for Orthodontics in La Spezia for 10 years (1989-1999) and then served as a contract professor at the University of Ferrara from 2001 to 2011.
He completed numerous internships in the United States and was the first Italian orthodontist to use Invisalign® aligners when they were introduced in Italy in 2002. He was also an Invisalign® Clinical Speaker from 2003 to 2007 and an Invisalign® European Platinum Doctor from 2005 to 2009.
From 2011 to 2014, Dr. Farina served as a consultant and speaker for the ALL IN invisible appliance, which was fully developed and produced in Italy, at the University of Pisa.
